Webinar for Teachers
You can say that again! Paraphrasing as a skill
for B2 First and C1 Advanced
Friday, 9 Apr 2021, 10:00 AM

Abstract

Being able to say the same thing in different ways is a fundamental skill that not only enriches a speaker's language but also allows them to communicate appropriately in different registers. It's also a skill that students need both at B2 First and C1 Advanced levels, especially in speaking and writing, but also in tackling key word transformations. This session will look at how we can develop our learners' ability to paraphrase their grammar and vocabulary, offering a range of practical activities that teachers can readily use in class.

Presenter:
Daniel Vincent
Teacher, Teacher Trainer

Daniel has taught English for over 20 years in the UK, Japan and Spain, and has recently finished co-authoring a new ELT coursebook for teens. He has a wide-ranging interest in language pedagogy, with an MA in Endangered Language Revitalisation. He currently works as a teacher and materials writer for the British Council in Madrid.

Webinar for Teachers
Tipping the odds in your favour in the C1 Advanced Reading and Listening tests
Saturday, 17 Apr 2021, 10:00 AM

Abstract

Sometimes a few points here and there can mean the difference between passing and failing an exam, so it makes sense to try and pick up each point that is there for the taking with some quick, simple strategies. In this session, we will look at techniques that can help avoid some wrong answers, quickly identify some right answers, and generally put the odds slightly more in the favour of the candidate in the Reading and Listening parts of the C1 Advanced exam. All of these are also applicable to other Cambridge Assessment English tests.

Presenter:
Matthew Johnson
Teacher, Teacher Trainer, Young Learner Specialist

Matthew Johnson is a lecturer in English language teaching and bilingual education at the Centro Universitario Cardenal Cisneros and on the Master's programme at the Franklin Institute. He collaborates as a teacher trainer for publishers, schools and educational authorities. His areas of interest are bilingual education, fostering communication in the classroom, learner training, and formative assessment.
